Indian Premier League -IPL

 

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a professional Twenty20 cricket league in India contested during April and May of every year by teams representing Indian cities and some states. 

The league was founded by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2007, with the first edition held in the same year. It is the richest cricket league in the world and ranks sixth among all sports leagues. There are eight teams in the IPL, with players auctioned at the annual player auction. 

The auctioned players are signed by the respective franchises for a one-year contract, with the franchise having the option to extend the contract for a further year.

 The IPL is one of the most-attended cricket leagues in the world and ranks sixth among all sports leagues. In 2010, the IPL became the first sporting event in the world to be broadcast live on YouTube.
